I saw you signed up for my growth group. That’s cool. I believe God will some amazing works through us and among us. Please rad this whole email. A few things, then I’ll give you a whole bunch of details for our group like when/where/cost/etc.
A few things
Our group is really full, so if you were thinking, “Maybe Jeff’s group… maybe another one…” then, trying a different one might be good. If we’re too large, we may split men/women during some of the discussions.
Also, my group used to be for people who were new to Church. New people can still come – but, I want to be certain you ALL saw the new description. This group is for people who don’t mind being asked really tough questions.
All of our groups try to hold people accountable with love and grace. We will too, but it’s not going to be a quaint little Bible discussion. If you aren’t participating, I’ll ask you why not, in front of the group. I’ll be asking if you read your Bible this week, and if not why not, and push to get to the real reason and not some dumb excuse like, “I was too busy.” That’s crap, right? The real reason is more like, “I watched Netflix for 2 hours most nights. I literally chose TV over God.” And we’ll push until we can help solve the issue. I expect us all to speak and to listen to others actively.
Don’t get me wrong, we’ll love on people – definitely! But, I’m not going to allow “easy answers” if that makes sense. You’ll probably feel uncomfortable at some point. But, once we get to week 3 and sign the commitment sheet, you’ll be harassed if you don’t show up. 🙂
The email is almost done…
Listening to the sermon isn’t just important – it’s imperative and necessary before our discussions. If you miss Church (like because you were in a serious car wreck on your way to Church, and not because you skipped, right?), you can go to the sermon page of our website and find the sermon to listen to it. If you are unable to listen to the sermon, you’re attendance at growth group is still expected, so that you can participate in community, and listen and learn, but you will not be able to participate in the discussion until we get to how you’ll do the practical application.
Finally, I’m asking that everyone in my group memorize Proverbs 12:1 – “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” Please have it memorized before our first group on Tuesday!
**If you are thinking, due to schedule, or ’cause we’re full, or whatever that you may join a different group please reply and let me know** Thanks!
