Are we supposed to fight back when someone wrongs us or hurts us? God says yes. The question that remains is, how do we fight back?

When someone messes with you, your family, or one of your friends, what is your first reaction? For most people our inner programming tells us to fight back. Though this natural response may seem the most logical course of action, God tells us, ‘Do not repay anyone evil for evil’ (Romans 12:17) but instead ‘Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good’ (Romans 12:21).

Evil wins if you respond with evil or anything other than love. Letting the evil be, hiding from it, or even acting in a passive aggressive manner, is letting the evil win. How do you love someone that hates you or does evil toward you? The answer is Jesus. Be like Jesus. Love like Jesus. He gave up his life for your life. That is what it means to love your enemy.

Do you want evil to win? If we want to fight evil, the first goal is to notice what evil is prompting you to do. It will try to get you to do anything but love in response. We can love our enemies but we must remember to leave room for God to work on them. God will punish when it’s appropriate to punish. Ever heard of karma? Well guess what, that is God in action. It’s not karma, it’s God!

You have the ability to show God’s love. See the good in Jesus, in His love, and then heap that love upon your enemies and those that hate you.
