Worst. Assumption. Ever.

Worst. Assumption. Ever.

Categories: , ,

Do you think everything is okay between you and God? Stop assuming that everything is awesome because it might not be the way you think it is.

If you think that everything is okay between you and God, you might want to think again. Assuming that you are safe isn’t the same as being safe. Is there something in your life, some assumption you have made that is holding you back and keeping you from getting to know God better and have Him in your life? Are you like Saul, who thought he was a good Jewish man doing what the Lord wanted, only to find out he’d been persecuting Christians and God alike?

Our first reaction to these questions might be, yeah, I’m alright and I’m nothing like Saul. God and I are good. I read the Bible, pray, tithe and treat people with kindness and respect. But what if that isn’t enough? What if you are simply assuming that those things are good enough?

To truly be ‘good with God’ you have to not only do those things but actively pursue him. He wants your attention and devotion. Reading the Bible is good, praying is good, and loving your neighbor as yourself is good. However, if you aren’t focusing entirely on Him when doing these things, then you aren’t as good with God as you think. As Pastor Jeff says in the sermon, “Assuming I’m fine is basically hopeless. Pursuing God’s mind requires refocus.” So whatever assumption you might have that’s getting in the way of you getting closer to God, stop it, drop it and pursue God with everything that is you.
